The ingestion of food known as goitrogens blocks iodine utilization. Goitrogens include: -
- Turnips
- Cabbage
- Mustard
- Cassava root
- Soybeans
- Peanuts
- Pine nuts
- Millet
Cooking usually inactivates the goitrogens. Unsaturated fats such as flax, soybean, safflower, corn and canola also should be avoided.
